Vision
Art & Design forms part of the Technology Department.
The Technology Department is an enthusiastic and passionate curriculum area of specialist teachers who are dedicated to encourage and develop creative thinking and promote independent work in our young people at St Michael’s. We aim to achieve this through an ambitious and coherently planned curriculum which challenges and questions all pupils, whilst allowing them to flourish as young adults.
At St Michael’s we want pupils to thrive as creative individuals, whilst growing in Body, Mind and Spirit throughout their studies in Art & Design.
Our vision is to:
- Inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
- Think critically, to understand how art and design both reflects and shapes our history, contributes to the culture and creativity of our nation, whilst considering the fast-changing world of creative thinkers and evolving Technologies.
- Encourage and develop creative flair and passion to enable pupils to experiment with a range of different techniques in order to record from observations as a basis for exploring their ideas.
- Develop confidence in handling different materials, whilst being able to analyse and evaluate their own work, and that of others, in order to strengthen the visual impact of application of their work.
Art and Design can enrich a pupils’ lives in so many ways. We want pupils to be inspired, whilst allowing them to be open minded and critical of their work and the work of others. We want them to build resilience to solve problems, which they can apply to real life issues beyond the classroom, and to be curious, to explore the world and different cultures they live in, allowing them to investigate different traditions and beliefs and how they can be expressed through Art.
Throughout Art and Design at St Michaels, we strive to deliver a curriculum which empowers and enthuses all pupil’s, whilst being rooted in our core Christian values.
