Prayer at St Michael’s

At St Michael’s, prayer is at the heart of school life—it’s woven into the fabric of each day and underpins all that we do.

Daily Practice: Each day begins in prayer.  Whether through staff briefings, collective worship, assemblies, or tutorial reflections, prayer marks the rhythm of our routine.

Weekly Staff Prayer: Every Monday at 8am, staff are warmly invited to gather in prayer—giving thanks, praising God, and lifting up both the week ahead and those in our community who may be facing challenges.

Meetings and end-of-day Grace: All formal school meetings open with prayer.  At the end of each day, pupils and staff come together to say Grace before heading home.  Many speak positively about the sense of peace and reflection that our focus on prayer creates.

Spaces for Prayer and Reflection:

  • Our outdoor worship area, designed by two former pupils and set within the Quad, offers a peaceful space for prayer and holds special events like Carols in the Quad during Advent.
  • The prayer box, located outside the Christian Youth Worker's office, provides a way for anyone to leave prayer requests.
  • A dedicated prayer email is available for pupils, parents, and visitors to share needs or intentions.
  • The Armstrong Centre serves as an indoor chapel for Eucharist and other services. It also hosts prayer spaces throughout the year and will soon feature a ‘Prayer Walk’ designed to deepen spiritual reflection.
  • The Christian Youth Worker’s office is a quiet retreat—a small prayer room for personal reflection and stillness during the day.

St Michael’s School Prayer

O Lord our heavenly Father,

We pray for our whole school community at St. Michael’s.

We thank you for the uniqueness of each person

who works and learns here.

May this school be a place of fulfilment,

of hope and of wholeness for each one of us.

We ask that you would be with us day by day in our life together.

Help us to do our best and to care for each other,

so that all who come here might see the Kingdom of God in action in this school. Amen.
