Educational Visits and Trips

St Michael’s pupils enjoy a wide range of educational visits both within the curriculum (see Christian Values Enrichment Days) and outside of the curriculum, as optional school holidays. We believe these experiences are incredibly valuable, not only because they enhance the learning that takes place in the classroom but also because they help to develop confidence and promote teambuilding and independence. Educational visits form part of our Personal and Spiritual Development offer at St Michael’s.

Below is a table explaining where and when these trips usually take place, which pupils trips are open to, and the cost and the aims of each experience. Please note that these school educational visits are run at the discretion of the organising teachers.

AIMS: For pupils interested in Performing Arts and the theatre to have a London experience.
Amsterdam Science visit	February half term 2026	May 2025	10 (Year 11 when on trip)	approx £630	Mrs Wilk	Four day visit to Amsterdam to see various museums focused on science, including the Science Museum, Bodyworld and Micropia.
AIMS: For pupils with an interest in science to explore various museums.

Paris, Bruges, Ypres and the Battlefields (annual)	Easter holidays	September 2025	8-10	Approx. £650	Mr Topping	Ferry to Calais, half a day in Bruges, visit to the battlefields and Ypres, full day in Paris, day at Disneyland, overnight travel to Chorley through the Channel tunnel. Hotel accommodation.
AIMS: For pupils to visit Paris and have the opportunity to practise their French and learn about the history and culture.

AIMS: To have a skiing experience.

Germany and Amsterdam (annual)	May half term holidays 2025	October 2025	7-9	Approx £650	Mr Hooley	Ferry to Calais, half a day in Amsterdam, hotel accommodation in Cologne. Boat tour of Amsterdam, visit to Cologne, Cologne Zoo, Phantasialand Theme Park, overnight return travel through Channel Tunnel.
AIMS: For pupils to have an opportunity to practise their German whilst experiencing the culture of Germany / the Netherlands.

Berlin, Krakow, Dresden (biennial)	October half term 2026 (16-25 Oct)	March 2025	9,10,11 when on visit	Approx. £1,100	Miss Simons	Overnight ferry to Rotterdam, three days in Berlin, two nights in Krakow, visit to Auschwitz, two nights in Leipzig, overnight ferry Rotterdam-Hull.
AIMS: For pupils interested in History and Languages to explore various sites of WW1, WW2 and the Cold War, visiting a concentration camp, listening to a survivor of the Holocaust and various museums in Berlin.
Brussels Science visit	October half term 2026 (17-20 Oct)	April 2025	9,10,11 when on visit	Approx. £600	Mrs Walling	Pupils will visit the Atomium, the Museum of Natural Science and Euro Space Center.
AIMS: For pupils interested in science.

Duke of Edinburgh expeditions	Pupils in Years 9 take part in Curriculum Enrichment which enables them to complete the DofE Award. Pupils in Year 9 (2024-25) will take part in the expeditions in July. The cost is £72. Pupils in Year 10 have the opportunity to enrol in the Silver DofE Award. In 2024-25, pupils will take part in their practice expedition on June 6-8 2025 and the real expedition on August 27-29 2025.
