Vision
Art Textiles forms part of the Technology Department.
The Technology Department is an enthusiastic and passionate curriculum area of specialist teachers who are dedicated to encourage and develop creative thinking and promote independent work in our young people at St Michael’s. We aim to achieve this through an ambitious and coherently planned curriculum which challenges and questions all pupils, whilst allowing them to flourish as young adults.
At St Michael’s we want pupils to thrive as creative individuals, whilst growing in Body, Mind and Spirit throughout their studies in Art Textiles
Our vision is to:
- Inspire creativity and innovation by encouraging pupils to engage in a variety of projects that encourage experimentation with varied materials, techniques, and concepts. They will have opportunities to design and create original pieces, pushing the boundaries of traditional textile art and learning about new technologies.
- Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by providing opportunities for pupils to analyse and critique art, craft, and design work, both historical and contemporary, to understand the context and meaning behind them. They will be encouraged to solve design challenges and make informed decisions about their own work.
- Celebrate cultural diversity by providing a curriculum which includes the studies of textile traditions from various cultures around the world. Pupils will explore how art and textiles reflect cultural identities and histories, fostering a global perspective and respect for diversity.
- Develop technical proficiency through hands-on workshops and guided practice pupils will learn valuable technical techniques and can develop these to a high level, developing life skills which they will be able to use in the future.
- Encourage collaboration and communication through sharing ideas and providing constructive feedback enhancing pupils’ ability to communicate effectively and review and refine their work as it progresses.
Our Art Textiles curriculum aims to inspire creativity, foster critical thinking, and develop technical proficiency in students. Through a blend of practical and theoretical learning, we strive to cultivate a deep appreciation for art and textiles while equipping students with the skills necessary to express their individuality and cultural understanding.
Throughout Art Textiles at St Michaels, we strive to deliver a curriculum which empowers and enthuses all pupils, whilst being rooted in our core Christian values.
