Vision

Languages Department at St Michael’s is committed to nurturing the whole child in Body, Mind, and Spirit. Rooted in Christian values, our teaching fosters a spirit of compassion, respect and global citizenship.

In all we do, we seek to reflect the school’s Christian ethos and cultivate and inspire linguists who are not only academically accomplished in this subject but are also spiritually grounded, socially responsible, and ready to make a positive impact in an increasingly communication-driven world.

Our vision is to:

  • Inspire a love of languages that will open doors to lifelong language learning. We are passionate about our subject and this is at the heart of our teaching. Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and designed to challenge all learners to develop both knowledge and creativity.
  • Celebrate success. Everyone at St Michael’s is given the opportunity to study a language  and we are unwavering in our aspiration that all of our pupils should aim high, dream big, and believe in their ability to succeed, regardless of how challenging they find learning a foreign language.  We celebrate progress and perseverance.
  • Develop cultural awareness. Through high-quality teaching and by sharing of our own experiences of our times abroad, we aim to empower pupils to communicate confidently in French and German and to appreciate the richness of diverse cultures. We hope that by exploring the traditions of other cultures, pupils can deepen their own spiritual understanding. Our trips abroad offer pupils an opportunity to experience the awe and wonder of God’s creation first hand.
