Pupils rotate in a 8 week rotation between the following areas. Art, FPN, Textiles and DT over the course of Year 7. Groups have one double lesson and one single lesson each week, pupils will be taught across two rooms (workshop and computer room).

Week 1

  • Introduction to Design & Technology – What experience have you had at primary school? DATA video.
  • Health & Safety in the workshop – general guide around the workshop / How to prepare for a practical?

Week 1

  • Introduction to Design & Technology – What experience have you had at primary school? DATA video.
  • What is a Product Analysis?  Why do we do Product Analysis? Complete a product analysis on a Key phone stand.
  • What is a Mood board / Inspiration Board?  Why do we have them?  WAGOLL.

HL –  Complete a Mood board based on the designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Week 2

  • What is a Product Analysis?  Why do we do Product Analysis? Complete a product analysis on a Key phone stand. 
  • What is a Mood board / Inspiration Board?  Why do we have them?  WAGOLL.

HL –  Complete a Mood board based on the designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Week 2

  • Health & Safety in the workshop – general guide around the workshop / How to prepare for a practical?
  • Introduction to a range of hand tools – What are they called? What are they used for Health & Safety? (Tool passport)

  • How to mark out onto wood?  Looking at working drawing – How to use a working drawing correctly. 
  • Introduction to a range of hand tools – What are they called?  What are they used for Health & Safety? (Tool passport) 
  • Introduction to Production Log.

Week 3

  • Introduction to Techsoft 2D Design –Tool exercises (AfL progression sheet) 
  • Introduction to design ideas – How to present them?  How do we use a Mood board to inspire us for our design ideas?  
  • Begin Ideas for design for surface detail – refer to simple patterns & what do we mean by pattern reprint

HL – Complete Design Ideas x3 (Black & White) for key ring phone stand.

  • Introduction to Techsoft 2D Design –Tool exercises (AfL progression sheet)

  • What do we mean by Development?  How could we use the feedback given?  How could we develop our idea further?  
  • Complete Final Idea for surface design – showing development from initial ideas to final.

  • Use of Techsoft Design to draw out final design for key fob. (AfL progression sheet) & how to save in work post box ready for lasing.
  • Review & reflect on CADCAM (AfL exercise).
